Biography: Ekta is the daughter of superstar Jeetendra and his wife Shobha. Her brother is film actor, Tusshar Kapoor. Ekta was born and brought up in Mumbai. She works as the Creative Head and Managing Director of Balaji Telefilms. Known as the Queen of Soap Operas in India, Ekta is remembered best for giving television entertainment the most cataclysmic turn ever. Her serials were aired on Sony, Star Plus and Zee. She began with unusual realistic serials like Koshish Ek Asha which starred Sandya Mridul. Currently her serials on air are Bade Acche Lagte Hai, Gumraah and Kyaa Hua Tera Vaada.
She decided to turn of Bollywood when she was at the peak of her career, winning awards every year for her daily soaps. In 2001, she released Kyoo Ki… Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta which starred Sushmita Sen and Govinda. In 2003 and 2004, she focused mainly on supernatural stories and thrillers like Krishna Cottage and Kucch Toh Hai. 2005 turned out to be a golden year for the lady when Kya Kool Hia Hum went on to be listed as one of the year’s biggest hits. For the next few years, she focused on television and her work in Bollywood was limited to co- producing films like EMI and Mission Istanbul. But 2010 and 2011 was pivotal for her career in Bollywood. She delivered the biggest and the most important films like ‘Love, Sex aur Dhoka’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’, ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Ragini MMS’ and the sequel of her earlier hit ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ named ‘Kya Super Kool Hai Hum’.
Ekta is a example of a woman for young creative heads and entrepreneurs. She single handedly has earned her stature in the industry, be it television or cinema. And keeping all criticisms about her work aside, she has given television a stature that no one else before her could.
